About my work
What is papercut art?
All Splash of Watermelon papercuts are designed and handmade by me in New York. Every individual picture is cut and constructed completely by hand, so no two pieces are exactly the same. This gives each one its own unique charm and quality, unlike the uniformity of a laser cut piece or digital art.
My papercut pictures are created in limited edition series, with a specific number of signed, numbered copies available. It's a similar model to how you might buy a screenprint. The series number depends on the materials used for the design - I often use vintage fabrics or one-off fabric pieces, upcycled papers or special finishes. So if you like a piece, grab it while you can!
Handwritten dedications, such as a child's name or birth date, are available as a complimentary option for any papercut to make your piece of art even more personal.
Each picture is made on a background of high quality textured white paper stock. At the moment I am using Moulin du Roy 300gsm 100% cotton fine grain, cold press paper.
Pictures are sold unframed. Except for the customised portraits, all papercuts come with a floating mount, ready to drop into a standard size frame. A floating mount is where the print sits in relief on top of the mat. This showcases the torn edges of the picture and gives a softer, more organic look.
I sign and number each piece by hand, in pencil. If you would like a specific dedication written in pencil on your picture, just let me know and I will happily do this for you.
I will be adding new work to my shop each month, so do visit again soon! I'm always open to ideas for what to make next, so if there's something you'd like to see in the shop, please drop me a line!
